Sustaining life comes from growth.
Every journey is better with others.
People push us to be the best version of ourselves
Get to know one another as human beings. It's hard to hate up close.
Democracy cannot survive in a swamp of mutual discontent.
The soul is contained in the human voice.
They say there are 4 things you want to say before you die, or you want to say to the person you love who is dying: Thank You, I Love You, Forgive Me, I Forgive You.
What StoryCorps I hope reminds us of is the beauty and the poetry and the power and the grace of everyday people who are hiding in plain sight all around us when we just take the time to listen.
One of the secret sauces of StoryCorps is that nobody comes to get rich. Nobody comes to get famous. It's just an act of generosity and love. We're surrounded by so much bullsh*t nowadays that when you hear people being authentic with each other you're kind of walking on holy ground.
I can’t tell you how important it is to have those middle spaces, to have spaces to explore, to grow folks, to make space for people who, maybe, have the potential to do the arts or be involved in the arts but can’t break in because they’re not in school and they’re not in the professional world of the arts or in the arts administration world. So it’s really, really important and I can’t tell you how lucky Omaha is to have this space basically as an incubator to create more art and to create more people who are creative who will then go on to be entrepreneurs, educators and culture makers in this area.
