About the speaker
As an impact-focused startup founder, scientist, and chief operating officer, Jess Shisler, Ph.D., is passionate about making the outdoors more accessible.
In 2018, Jess co-founded Sekr where she is the COO, overseeing the strategic operations to make outdoor travel easier, safer and more connected. Jess has long been a trusted thought leader in the outdoor industry, living nomadically in a self-built camper van since 2017.
In 2021, Jess co-founded Project Respect Outdoors (PRO), a coalition that unites women business owners, non-profit leaders, grassroots change-makers and their allies to evolve the outdoors industry to be more inclusive, intersectional, equitable and sustainable.
Jess earned her doctoral degree in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota and completed her postdoctoral research fellowship at the National Institute of Health. She launched her own biotechnology communications consultancy, helping startups and Fortune 500 bio-pharmaceutical companies make a larger impact.
Jess is an action oriented, everyday change-maker, constantly bridging the communication gap between humans and nature. She uses her platforms to educate and share her minimalist lifestyle, while running multiple startups that enable everyone access to the outdoors.
