June’s Theme is Wilderness. We travel to the edges of our known world — to wander, to lose ourselves, to commune with the wilderness. Dappled light dripping in through the forest canopy, insects buzzing as feet squelch through wetlands, inhaling the hot dry air and endless skies of desert, we long for this. Some of us seek enchantment and estrangement here. Some of us call it home.

About the speaker

Anne Archer Dennington is the founding Executive Director of Flux Projects, an organization commissioning public art that invites audiences in Atlanta to explore the city’s sites and stories as a means to imagining its future possibilities. Inspiring wonder and imagination, these projects support artists at all career levels to take risks and grow their practices. Free and open to the public, the projects transform the spaces in which they are situated and help build community by connecting thousands of people from all walks of life. Since 2010, Flux Projects has presented over 130 projects, engaged over 700 artists, and reached an audience of over 500,000 people.

At Flux Projects, Dennington has produced projects for artists ranging from those making their first venture into the public realm to the internationally celebrated Nick Cave. She has worked with esteemed curators including Helena Reckitt and Nato Thompson. And she has built a diverse group of community partners from the public and private sectors, both in and out of the arts community.

Prior to Flux Projects, Dennington led three previous organizations—Atlanta Celebrates Photography, the Masur Museum, and The Cooley House—and worked across the commercial, government, and nonprofit art sectors.
