August’s #CMugshot is Nathaniel Muniz, who studies Finance and Photography and currently works as a restaurant host.

When not devouring chorizo and egg tacos, topped with salsa and a slice of crispy bacon, you can find him photographing by bike or on foot, as well as taking advantage of free museum days in Austin.

What have you been drawing inspiration from lately?

I am definitely taking in a lot of image and style inspiration from some ‘90s films I’m barely getting around to and from the people I see at the house shows that go on around town.

If your life were an action flick, what would the plot be?

I’d have to say it would be the classic case of mistaken identity. I’m sure it would start in some mundane way, like I walked into Room 27 instead of Room 83 because I couldn’t understand the doorman’s accent. This all leads me to being part of a pasta-worshiping cult that had been under the eye of the FBI, and trying to weave myself out of it.

Photos from last Friday’s #CMaction event at In.gredients are up on our Flickr account! A special thanks to Manny Pandya for these quality photos, our speaker Brenton Johnson of Johnson’s Backyard Garden for sharing, and our sponsors: Real HQ, The Creative Executive, Legal Garage, and Barrett’s Coffee for making it all happen.

Also, a special shout-out to the CreativeMornings/Houston organizers for visiting and our wonderful #CMATX community for braving the rain!

After it launched in the fall of 2014, Serial became the fastest podcast to reach 5 million downloads in iTunes history.

In her live presentation, Sarah Koenig will take the audience backstage in the creation of this cultural phenomenon.  Using some of her favorite tape, she’ll tell behind-the-scenes stories, explain how she constructed certain episodes, and allow the audience to follow the ups and downs of creating a new form of modern journalism.

Our #CMugshot for July is Marque Blackman.
He’s a Social Media Coordinator for Beardbrand and Urban Beardsman Magazine. He’s also an occasional photographer and a closet anthropologist.

Connect with him on instagram @marquers.

How do you collaborate at Beardbrand – and how has it helped build such an amazing community?
From the articles I curate to the beardsmen I connect with, and all the way down to our intra-office dynamic, collaborative efforts are essential for my work.

Our company culture, media channels, and products are fueled by the amazing guys (and quite a few girls) that feed us ideas and share our passion. Maintaining that approachable, relatable, transparency is what keeps that door with our bearded community open. And actively communicating with them is what keeps us alive.

What is your biggest passion outside of work?
I love meeting people and exploring the outdoors, which are the backbones of my creativity.

What do you like on your breakfast tacos.
Jalapenos, bacon, and eggs
 great, now I’m hungry.

If you joined us in December for our Education talk, you received a snazzy laser-cut ornament with a coupon for a free 2-hour class, Lasers 101, with Eve, Kristen, and Nathaniel of MAKEatx. Recently, a group from our CreativeMornings/Austin community came together one Saturday to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Everyone brought their unique set of skills to the class (or lack thereof!), but the MAKEatx team made sure we all walked away with a fantastic etched or lasered personal memento.

So, what did we get from this experience? Etching and cutting stuff with lasers is FUN.

Now we must get back to our hunt for more stuff to laser. You can follow more Austin chapter happenings on Instagram.
