About the speaker
Salma Abdelrahman, an Egyptian-American, is dedicated to sharing stories. Through her video project, Fabula Rasa, Salma aims to capture the power of storytelling and utilize it to create positive change. Fabula Rasa aims to invoke empathy through innovative storytelling, utilizing whiteboard animations and voice over in order to share the stories of marginalized and oppressed groups. Salma has created this platform in order to create a sense of understanding and compassion in her school and community. She hopes to attend Law School with a focus on Human Rights Law and work at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. after finishing grad school. In her free time, Salma enjoys reading the famous works of civil rights activists such as W.E.B Dubois and James Baldwin, and watching reruns of her favorite TV Shows, The Office and Parks and Recreation.

Numbness happens when we are shocked too often but forget to take our finger out of the outlet.
When you experience shock, you have two options: 1) Lose faith in humanity and do nothing or 2) Partially lose faith in humanity and create constructive change in order to restore faith.
I step back from my situation and I said, 'If I just share my story and if I address the issues that I faced as a Muslim person in Miami, I can make a difference.'
