“At that point, I saw some adults that I could grow up to be, and I think they saved my life.”

If you had met Katie Taft as a kid, she would have told you she was “the weirdo.” She was an artist. Her parents were not. As she struggled to figure out how to be her best self, she discovered the importance of finding alternative guides along her creative career path. In this talk and discussion, Katie shares her journey and challenges us all to be the guides we wish we had when we were younger.

About the speaker

Making, viewing and talking about art has been at the center of Katie Taft’s life for approximately three decades. Art has allowed her to understand herself and the world we live in better. She has found community in it and invited others to do the same.

Taft has taught in Denver Public Schools and worked with many local organizations such as DAVA, Think 360 Arts, and the Colorado Photographic Arts Center and was a resident artist at PlatteForum. She is currently the Education Manager at MSU Denver’s Center for Visual art where she along with teaching assistants from MSU leads a crew of high school interns in exploring the possibilities for their creative futures.
