We all know the warm fuzzy feeling when things come together in an unexpected way. It’s serendipity. Those joyful moments of a-ha, love, and connection feel so divine. It may feel as though the universe has funneled all the things into the perfect collection of moments. Serendipity is more than a divine event. Serendipity occurs when the unexpected is connected to your prior actions, choices, and experiences. In reality, those serendipitous moments lead us to connection, creativity, innovation, and positive learning outcomes. Based on her research and experience as an educator, maker, and active community member, Delanie will take you through a step-by-step process of DIY serendipity in your work and your life.
About the speaker
Delanie Holton-Fessler is a maker, connector, educator, and designer.
Delanie is the owner and program director at The Craftsman & Apprentice, a heritage inspired craft workshop and retail space in Denver. Prior to opening the shop in 2014, Delanie worked an art teacher and content integration specialist in highly impacted schools for ten years. She has a BFA in sculpture and art education and a Masters in Education with a focus on cultural and linguistic diversity, at-risk youth and arts education. She has been an active maker/artist since she started making her own clothes at the age of 8.
She's lived in the same house for 14 years with her husband and business partner, Jonathan Fessler. They're raising two boys and a dog. It's just four blocks from their shop and her mom lives down the street.
