If being taboo is loving community and using your body, Cat McCarthy is all for it.
Burlesque dancer, artist, and activist, Cat McCarthy, shares how to love and be a part of your community, cultivate art and others, all while maintaining the importance and pride of being yourself.
About the speaker
Cat McCarthy is a visual and performance artist from Buffalo, NY. She is a graduate of the University at Buffalo with a BFA in painting. She has been a burlesque and drag performer with The Stripteasers since 2008, co-founder of The Buffalo Burlesque Collective, visual arts coordinator of The Buffalo Infringement Festival, and volunteer for Food Not Bombs. Her work pushes the boundaries of taste and sensuality, often using pornography, gender play, and the obscene to create art that makes a lingering statement. It makes the viewer question everything from politics, to the environment, including big issues like rape and world hunger, and even their own self awareness, body, and sexuality.
