About the speaker

A Brief Discourse on Catastrophic Failure

There are mistakes… and then there are Mistakes. It is the latter which concerns us, and dealing with the subsequent, soul-crushing restart.

Alfonso is a California transplant by way of Seattle. He has lived and worked in Portsmouth for the past 19 years and while the “native” badge will forever elude him, he gladly calls it home.

After going to school for architecture, then taking an odd detour to work in a motorcycle shop, he accidentally stumbled his way into the world of design and The Internet at the height of the Dotcom era. He has never looked back. Since then, he has worked with clients and projects of wildly varied natures, developing a love for and skills in many forms of design: branding, illustration, motion graphics, UX design, print, and more. He also creates artwork, occasionally participating in group shows at Nahcotta’s Enormous Tiny Art.

Alfonso currently works as a senior visual designer at Quick Base, Inc. in Cambridge, MA, where he gets to tinker and build with some of the smartest and nicest people he’s ever worked with. He is also a single dad with a daughter who, unbeknownst to her, frequently brings him down a peg by showing just how much more creative she is than he. Sigh…
