I think the three most important pieces of empathy are: listen and teach, listen and teach, help and communicate.

There is darkness, and there is also light, so within my past I also learned about choice. And I chose that everyday I would rise up and fight for love like hell.

The opposite of darkness is light and love

Pain and trauma taught me all that I know about love.

Everyday I dream of a love in this world that flows so deep that no act could erase it, that no act could take it away.

You are a vessel of stories. Your duty is to deliver the story. Your poem is bigger than yourself.

It's not about how loud your voice is or how quiet your voice is, the point is you have a voice and you need to use it.

Empathy is an antidote to shame.

We’ve got to evolve, man. I used to make websites for people — that's how I started out back. Turns out it was hard to make websites. Now, it's not so hard to make a website. You can go to SquareSpace and you can get a perfectly great looking website for your small business and it'll look fantastic. . . Making websites has turned from this totally tailored experience to a commodity for anything except people who are solving really hard complex problems. . . So if you’re still in the business of making small websites for small companies that don’t need that kind of service, then you are now in a commodity business and you’re not competing with another design studio, you’re competing with something like Squarespace. And you have to evolve out of that. What do people actually need solved? Designers are problem solvers by nature. And the problem of how to make a website has been solved. So move on and find another problem that hasn’t been solved yet and know that at some point there’s going to be a commodity solution for that problem and you’re going to have to move on from that.

Vocation: they are callings to be human beings. We long to be called to be our best selves, but so much of the messaging that we get culturally is not doing that.

There's this kind of trope now that we should all seek meaningful work. And that's important but it's not going to possible for everyone for the job they do to be in and of itself meaningful. I am very big on the notion of vocation and also opening vocation to be to be how you do whatever you are and how you are in all the spaces, not just your working life."
