Justice to me means that we take a step outside of ourselves and try to have some empathy for one another, and not just rely on the systems all the time.
If we have accessible transit, multiple modes of transit, it makes our city thrive; a place that people don’t want to move from, a place that people want to move to. It helps folks out that don’t have the same resources as you. It makes it so that people have choice on the ways that they want to move through the world.
Every day I wake up and the first thing on my mind is, ‘How do I create something that people are going to love? What sounds am I going to use?
We can deal with stress and be calm: it’s a choice.
Prioritize yourself every day.
Each challenge makes the place you have left before a new comfort zone.
Being strong makes everything feel easier.
I allowed myself to be vulnerable before I needed to show up and be fearless and strong.
You have to sit with yourself and deal with the layers of emotions attached to discomfort.
Urgencia por vivir, experimentar, probar y hacer… es hoy, no mañana.
Nature loves courage.
Creativity is not an abstract thing. It’s not the motivation for action, it’s the consequence of action. You can’t be creative if you don’t ‘do.’ And what you need to ‘do’ is whatever you think needs to be done. Only then ask whether it was possible or permissible.
If you put yourself in the ways of opportunities, where there is no choice but success, you'll suddenly find yourself capable of achieving things that were beyond your imaginings a few short months before.
Life is neither linear nor predictable. A career is something that grows organically step by step, choice by choice. Nothing is beneath you unless you make it so. Nothing is a waste of time unless you see it that way.
I believe anytime you want to do something good in the world, it requires a little bit of risk.
Once a week, be bored. Go and sit outside somewhere for an hour without your phone. Just sit there. It's tough, but you start to notice your own story and the things that you're telling yourself. And then you start to dream and have ideas again.
That's not what Einstein did. He rode his bike. He was a dreamer. He wondered around and let himself have idle time, and came up with his beautiful concepts. So I try and do that.
Imagine van Gogh getting home with his bunch of flowers and just putting them on the table and picking up his Instagram feed. Or Monet sitting in front of a lake with the water lilies and thinking that's nice but what's on Twitter?
We're on our devices all the time. We don't let ourselves sit idle and get bored and dream enough anymore, especially our children.
The only way we're going to get through this is to encourage more dreaming. More creativity. More imagination.
We've become so reductionist now, with the way we look at the planet. It's like Shakespeare - if you looked at it through a scientific lens, it's just 26 letters on a page rearranged. But why we love Shakespeare is because of the meaning we give it, and the beauty, and the wonder it evokes. We need to do the same with the planet. For too long we've just looked at it as a cold rock floating through galaxy; through a very scientific lens. But as we know, it's much more than that. It's this interconnected, interwoven, rich ecosystem of life that supports us, and that we're a part of. That's the language we've got to talk about if we're going to get through this.
Yoga is a tool that helps me attempt to keep both feet in the present moment just taking issues as they come day by day and moment by moment, rather than letting things pile up and carrying the weight of the future and the past.
If you can figure out how to repurpose things, you can reach a lot more people and your work becomes more interesting, engaging and compelling.
There's no line item on a balance sheet for "give a damn" but it's the most valuable thing you've got in the business.
It's not the what or the how, but it's the why that's at the heart of creative entrepreneurs.
Every work of art tells a story...Let's get good at telling them with goodness and authority.
