Created as a city-wide legacy project for the Portsmouth NH 400th anniversary, A History of Portsmouth in 101 Objects is a book about 101 objects symbolizing the spirit of Portsmouth and its history since before European contact and in the 400 years since. This CMPKX talk takes a look at some of the objects, and how and why they were selected. Our speakers, project director Stephanie Seacord (she/her) and editor Kathleen Soldati (she/her), explain the resources and tools created to help people find the objects in their “natural habitats.”

About the speaker

A History of Portsmouth in 101 Objects is a collaboration between Strawbery Banke Museum, the Portsmouth Historical Society, the Portsmouth Athenaeum, and the Portsmouth Public Library.

Stephanie Seacord, project director, is Public Information Officer for the City of Portsmouth and was director of marketing for Strawbery Banke when president Larry Yerdon suggested the idea of a “101 Objects” project for Portsmouth NH 400.

Kathleen Soldati, editor, brought over 40 years of writing, organizing, and editorial skills to the project. Known for her ability to put organizations on the map, she helped chart the course for Portsmouth Historical Society, The Music Hall, and the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
