Becoming Grey
Prejudice, Pride, and Power
Nancy Grace Horton is a photo-based artist who embraces both analog and digital techniques. Her project, “Becoming Grey,” is an exploration of women’s hair, identity, desire, and power, as revealed in photographs and interviews. Using art as activism, the project is also a response to the abuse of power that assigns women to not age and to conform to unrealistic forms of beauty.
The 12-minute short documentary film “Becoming Grey" will be shared.
Nancy is an artist that primarily uses photography. Her practice is rooted in feminist art and dialog, and she draws influence from media, popular culture, and personal experiences. Her photographs address how women are seen or unseen within American society. And her projects confront the stereotypes through narrative pictures, as allegories and documentaries, that invite the viewers to respond and or participate. She lives and works out of Portsmouth, NH.
