About the speaker
Johannes Langkamp is a new media artist based in Rotterdam. Originally from Germany, he studied fine arts at the Academy for Art and Industry artEZ in Enschede, but also in London and Wellington. You can see his work in âProject Rotterdamâ a special exhibition of Rotterdam artists, currently open in the Boijmans van Beuningen museum.
Using video as a medium of creation, Johannes explores fragments of daily reality and creates playful experiments. His videos and art installations manipulate perspective, shapes and angles, incorporating often very common items, which become tools for exciting visual journeys.
As other creatives and artists lacking a structured work frame, he is also confronted with the arbitrary nature and fluctuations of his creative process. Any decision to take on a project is a risk and so is deciding on the right moment to wrap up the efforts one puts into it. In a field so subjective as art, risk is not always obvious in the end result, whereas the flow and process are always subject to hazard, to a certain extent.
