When Educators and Entertainers Build a Movement
Hodari Davis and Candice Wicks-Davis share a passion for lifelong learning, teaching, uplifting, and creating. Their organization, Edutainment for Equity, works with students, teams, and individuals to develop skills and deepen investment and grounding in purpose. Defining “art” as anti-racist technology, active resistance tools, and art for radical transformation, they use artistic expression to inspire emotional engagement and action. Candice and Hodari invite the world into their classroom of uplifting Black lives and voices. Some of their recent projects include a music video with Antique Naked Soul and an audio play, Diamond & Bullets (scheduled to be released in 2021).
About the speaker
Hodari holds a Masters in Education from San Francisco State University and a Bachelors in Political Science from UC Berkeley. He is also the Artistic Director of the award-winning performance ensemble Young, Gifted and Black and has spoken at conferences all over the world. He is the former National Program Director of Youth Speaks and served as the Executive Producer of the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival for ten years.
