Cooper Lambla asks the question: What’s worth taking a risk?
As Curator of the U.S. National Whitewater Center’s EXPLORE Series – as well as an extreme “off the grid” kayaker exploring remote areas of the world – Cooper Lambla knows a lot about the complexities and consequences of risk. In his talk, we learn how on the river, as in life, there’s an art to identifying hazards, looking for positives, and balancing the two to make a decision on whether or not to run the rapid.
About the speaker
Born and raised in Charlotte, NC, Cooper Lambla was baptized into the world in Joyce Kilmer National Forest. He began whitewater kayaking at the age of 12, and has since plunged into rivers, cultures, and communities in over 20 countries across six continents. Cooper received a BS in Geography at Appalachian State University before wandering west to work in Idaho's Sawtooth National Forest, periodically hitting the road to weave relationships with rivers and people around the world. Cooper makes the impossible possible, in a disarmingly un-intimidating way, making friends wherever he goes. After six years away from NC, Cooper returned home to the U.S. National Whitewater Center to inspire and empower others to lead their own lives with an adventurous spirit. He is Curator of the USNWC EXPLORE Series, a creative initiative promoting the active, outdoor lifestyle.
