“Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.”

Founder of Berdoll Sawmill, Brandon Berdoll, shares how he built his business out of a desire to make something from what would otherwise be waste. A drought-stricken Texas left fields of trees dying. While some resolved to tackle this by burning them down, Brandon saw the possibility of new life. And this new creation was something he knew he’d be creating to last for generations.

About the speaker

Ten years ago, after graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Construction Science, Brandon Berdoll and his wife, Brandi, began milling large, declining native Pecan trees in the central Texas area. From the beginning, they decided to focus on large diameter trees that would produce wide live edge slabs. The sheer size of the logs, and the tree species available, provided many challenges in the beginning. Through ingenuity and creativity, those challenges have been solved, and thousands of native Texas trees have been preserved.
