About the speaker
Andrea Pippins is an artist and author with a background in graphic design. With her BFA in graphic design Andrea spent time designing professionally at Hallmark Cards and TV Land/Nick@Nite Networks before returning to school to pursue her MFA at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. During her educational and professional careers her work has been published in well-known publications such as Anthology Magazine, Canadian House & Home, Colorlines.com, Creative Quarterly, CMYK, How Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Graphis New Talent. Andrea has also received numerous awards and recognition in the design industry including First Place in the 2009 AIGA Campaign to Sustain Poster Competition and the 2008 Flux Design Competition for Best Identity. In 2012, Andrea was recognized as one of Dell’s #100 Most Inspiring People.
While she teaches part-time as an assistant professor of art at Maryland Institute College of Art, Andrea works as a freelance designer and illustrator (having designed for brands like Worth Global Style Network, Free People, Hallmark Cards and the BlackStar Film Festival), while producing content for her fashion, art and design blog, Fly. Andrea’s blog is a weekly resource to inspire young women to pursue their creative passions.
Because of her rich professional background, Andrea has been invited to speak about her career path at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco, at a Meninas Black Power event in Rio, at Hallmark Cards where she spoke about her professional experiences, inspirations, and trends during the company’s Trend Week (2014), the Barnes Foundation (2015), and presented her work at the Emerging Designers Symposium at the AIGA Design Conference in 2015.
In November 2015 Andrea’s first book, I Love My Hair, was published with Random House Children’s Books. I Love My Hair is a coloring book featuring her illustrations celebrating various hairstyles and textures.
Andrea currently resides in Baltimore, MD.
