CREATIVEMORNINGS OTTAWA WITH HĂLĂNE CAMPBELL
In May we talked reality, and how
our reality is constantly shifting to include new truths and adapting to our
changing environment. This month weâre exploring the cracks of that reality,
the broken bits and pieces that make us wonder how we even stay intact, and
what it takes to fix whatâs broken to make a change.
Itâs been said that the difference between those who make that change and those who donât is a simple difference between pointing at something and saying âitâs brokenâ versus pointing at it and saying, âI am going to fix thisâ or âIâm not going to give up trying.â

Thatâs exactly what HĂ©lĂšne did, when she was diagnosed with advanced idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis - a fatal lung disease that causes a progressive decline in lung function. She was faced with a life changing problem, but she wasnât going to give up, she decided she was going to fix it and she did. In 2012, HĂ©lĂšne underwent a successful double-lung transplant.

In the three months prior to the operation, as she waited in Toronto for donor lungs to become available, she famously encouraged TV host Ellen DeGeneres and singer Justin Bieber to spread the word about organ donation.

Now an advocate for organ and blood donations, she continues to raise awareness for organ donation along with other causes and charities, including the United Way and Girl Guides of Canada. She also works with such organizations as the Canadian National Transplant Research Program and RĂ©seau des services de santĂ© en français de lâEst de lâOntario, the latter which helps ensure that francophone patients have access to health care in French.
Needless to say, this young lady kicks ass and thatâs why weâre so pleased and honoured to have her speak at this monthâs CreativeMornings Ottawa on the theme #BROKEN.Â
