Vogueing as a dance of social resistance and queer liberation
William Briscoe will explore the “endurance” theme at breakfast through his experience with Voguing. Vogue is in fact a dance of social resistance and queer liberation. It is a highly stylized dance of self-expression that originated in Harlem, NYC, in the Black and Latino LGBTQ+ and Drag dance communities during the 1960s-90s. Today it continues to proliferate globally. There are three distinctive styles of Voguing: Old Way, New Way and Vogue Fem. Its feminine essence, body expressiveness and sensual movements are mesmerizing; this breakfast is an opportunity to learn how it came about and its meaning.
