About the speaker

San Antonio native, Valeria Alderete is a design technologist and nonprofit admin whose work engages arts, culture, and web technologies as a means of preserving and advancing regional art forms and cultural heritage. Within her professional and creative practice, Valeria uses data-driven approaches in storytelling and reporting efforts for community advancement to affirm the role of arts and culture as a vital part of her Westside San Antonio community and beyond.

Valeria was a fellow of the 2019 Advocacy Leadership Institute, National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, where she joined a cohort of cultural workers in Capitol Hill to advocate for policies that benefit the arts and culture sector. In the spring of 2022, she received a Master of Science in Data Analysis and Visualization from the City University of New York, Graduate Center. Through her professional and creative roles, Valeria develops content and copy, most recently writing for Texas Music Magazine, where she highlights contributions from Latinx artists in the Texas music scene.

Currently, Valeria works with the Conjunto Heritage Taller, a community-based nonprofit organization focused on the preservation, instruction, and perpetuation of traditional Conjunto music.
