About the speaker
Ruth Bushman is an artist, organizer, and co-founder of the River Artes District in San Antonio, Texas. She helps lead Caliente Hot Glass, a working glassblowing studio and gallery on the city’s South Side focused on immersive experiences, handmade glass, and public engagement with the arts.
Her work centers on strengthening connections between artists, small businesses, and neighborhoods through collaborative events, cultural programming, and creative placemaking initiatives. Through River Artes, she has helped support growing partnerships between artists, makers, local businesses, and community organizations in the Southside, along the Roosevelt, Presa, and Mission corridors.
Ruth is especially interested in the role experiential art spaces can play in economic vitality, cultural identity, and creating places people feel connected to.
