About the speaker
Chefs Richie Brandenburg and Rubén García bring a lifetime of experience in the world’s most loved kitchens to DC’s newest culinary landmark, The Square. Rubén’s early years cooking in Catalonia, Spain, and Richie’s younger days in New Orleans (and Richmond, and Isle of Mann) laid the foundation for individual careers that stretched across Europe and North America before the pair joined José Andrés as part of the leadership team behind restaurants ranging from minibar in DC to The Bazaar in LA to Mercado Little Spain in NYC. Before arriving in DC in 2003, Rubén worked alongside iconic Spanish chefs including Albert Adrià (El Bulli), Jean Luc Figeuras, and Martín Berasategui. Richie, whose cuisine borrows heavily from French traditions, has teamed up with visionary chefs such as Raymond Blanc (Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons), Mark Miller (Red Sage), and George Marrone (Fifth Floor). Richie later used his culinary expertise and industry reputation to curate DC's Union Market.
Today, Richie and Rubén — and the rest of their team at Unfold Hospitality — are building on their decades of experience to create the newest and most ambitious food market in DC yet.
