‘Reverie’ with Alaistair Steele

BrainStation

part of a series on Reverie

About the speaker

When your gaze softens around the edges, where does your mind travel to? What thoughts come up?

Reverie invites us to dream while awake.

Neuroscientists have found that daydreaming ignites our brain’s default mode network. This unfocused part of the mind is where many creative breakthroughs take place: when we're not preoccupied with solving a problem, our mind is free to drift, roaming for the pieces that might complete the puzzle unexpectedly.

MEET THE SPEAKER:

We're excited to explore the theme of 'Reverie' with Alaistair Steele this Friday.

Alaistair is a designer, researcher and educator. He is the current Acting Course Leader of MA User Experience Design at London College of Communication. Alaistair’s teaching, research and commercial work explores new approaches to living with technology in cities. It focuses on incorporating the everyday and the overlooked in strategies for making cities fairer, more useful and more fun.

Since 2003 Alaistair has combined teaching with his own design and research. He has initiated numerous dynamic outward-facing projects that engage with place, local communities and technology. Project partners include IDEO, Brixton Pound, Chelsea Physic Garden, V&A and R/GA.

Alaistair will share how reverie is the opposite of productivity, and the importance of consciously claiming it for ourselves and not giving it away for free.
