About the speaker
Meet this September’s CMRVA speaker Danielle “dj” Johnson, Mental Health Advocate, Entrepreneur, and Clinical Supervisor.
Danielle Johnson, known professionally as "dj," is a passionate mental health advocate, business owner, and clinical supervisor. dj holds a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling and boasts extensive experience in family systems, couples, and individual therapy. Since 2017 she has been at the helm of Health in Mind, a thriving mental health group practice where she recently transitioned from direct patient care to focus on business and team development.
As the Clinical Director and Owner of Health in Mind, dj spearheads a practice that prioritizes employee personal and professional development, ethical clinical practice, collaborative partnerships, self-care, and work-life balance. These tenets have shaped a work culture where humanity and teamwork prevail over mere productivity and hierarchy.
Her commitment to advancing ethical clinical practice is underscored by her role as a Virginia Board of Counseling approved Clinical Supervisor and she is deeply committed to upholding the integrity of the counseling profession. Her practice has forged relationships with local and regional universities to provide counselor training to Master’s Degree seeking students.
Her dedication to advocacy has extended across her 6 year term on the Metropolitan Local Human Rights Committee, where she served as Vice Chair and Committee Member. dj is also a member of the American Counselors Association, the Virginia Counselors Association, and currently serves as the Social Chair of the Richmond Area Counselors Association.
dj's career is marked by her dedication to championing hundreds of patients, nurturing their growth with the same care she applies to her teammates. She has cultivated a reputation for hosting insightful workshops, participating in mental health panels, and speaking to various groups about mental health related topics.
Outside of her professional endeavors, dj finds joy in caring for her elderly grandparent, affectionately known as "Grama," and her two polar-opposite yet equally adorable sons. She cherishes close friendships that keep her grounded and shares her back yard with Simon, a blue-eyed feline. Maintaining a balanced lifestyle is paramount to dj, who prioritizes self-care through regular movement, hydration, therapy, and routine healthy introspection.
