About the speaker
After graduating from Karnataka university in B.Sc [electronics] in the year 1993, Ravi Kiran chose to work in the field of textiles/garments. For the next 4 years he worked in few garment factories and realized his true calling was more towards handcrafted textiles and made-ups. Keeping this in mind he started a company called “Barometre” in 1998. Though he was not trained in textile and garment construction, having a workshop provided him all the opportunity to learn everything hands-on. In 2011 he formed ‘metaphor racha’ with a clear understanding to work with local craftsmen be it spinners, weavers, dyers, printers and tailors, and bring the deserving craftsmen to fore-front. He strongly advocates transparency in business, fair price, pride in labor and equal opportunity of growth for everyone involved. He considers himself fortunate to work with various Khadi weavers and weaving societies in Karnataka and being the bridge between rural crafts and the urban need. Metaphor Racha is a dedicated Khadi brand that was started in the year 2011, with an aim to establish a range of products that is authentic to Karnataka. than on the glamour bit of fashion. Since the entire process involves hand, Imperfection becomes an integral part of the process, right from spinning the yarn, weaving and printing. We do believe that the commercial approach can not only lead to economic empowerment for ordinary people to become problem solvers but also yields a higher value for a customer than what he spends on it. We request you to be a part of this ‘ shared responsibility’ and be the ‘conscious consumer’ where he/she is aware of the impact of purchasing decision on the environment and consumer health.
