Don’t just survive, strive to thrive
Zohaib Waliany and Paul Sirmon talk about making the best of it.
About the speaker
Paul Sirmon is a typographer, and brand design/strategy-izer. He was a Creative Director in a large team, now works solo, and designs fonts sometimes. Paul and his work has been recognized/published by Print Magazine, Logo Lounge, Addys, GDUSA, Computer Arts Magazine, Web Designer Magazine, and maybe some other stuff too. In 2012 Paul and Justin Miller, started Monsters of Type as an outlet for typography focused creatives to get together and talk shop, inspire, and motivate each other to grow in their craft.
Being a Pakistani-American Muslim made for a confusing childhood, but design has always been Zohaib’s way of making sense of the world. Zohaib Waliany is an Interactive and Brand Identity Designer based out of Dallas. He has over 8 years of professional design experience that followed 9 years of learning why Photoshop shouldn’t be used to design logos (the hard way). Zohaib graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Advertising. He’s worked with small agencies, at startups, full-time as a freelance designer, at a print shop as a production designer (regrettably), and in-house at large corporations. He relies heavily on his skills in front-end development, typography, illustration, 3D modeling & animation, photography, and other mediums. With the help of a friend, he’s even started work on creating a podcast exploring intersectional identities through social issues and popular culture.
