About the speaker

Otto Kylmälä is a Finnish writer-director-producer, curator and critic who lived nine years abroad in the Czech Republic, India, Lithuania and the UK, before settling in Helsinki.

His films, commercials and music videos have been awarded in Finland and abroad. His film as a producer, The Moonshiners (2017) was nominated for a Jussi award for the best short film of the year. He is the co-founder and artistic director of Loud Silents Festival and for three years he was artistic director of the Oulu Music Video Festival.

Over the years he has served in international juries, curated screenings for film festivals and made Francis Ford Coppola cry. Currently he is adapting two novels into films and curating Kino Regina’s cinematheque program.
