What makes Austin truly Austin?

In this moving and funny talk, Nick Shuley takes us from his teenage obsession with music to a career spent shaping Austin’s music scene. He shares the untold story of how local venues, artists, and visionary advocates built the city’s cultural soul. From handing out free records in high school to partnering with Gary Keller and relaunching the legendary Armadillo World Headquarters brand, Nick’s journey is a tribute to community and creativity. But this talk isn’t just about music—it’s a call to action to help preserve what makes Austin, Austin.

About the speaker

Nick Shuley is a veteran marketing and media executive with over 20 years of experience across music, sports, and culture. He leads several of Austin’s most influential music organizations, including the Austin Music Movement, ALL ATX, and Music Makes Austin, in partnership with Keller Williams founder Gary Keller. Together, they are working to protect and grow Austin’s identity as the Live Music Capital of the World.

Nick is also part of the team behind the revival of Armadillo World Headquarters, helping reconnect the community with this iconic symbol of Austin’s creative spirit. His role focuses on using the brand to promote unity, celebrate individuality, and champion local culture.

In sports, Nick founded the Clark Field Collective and co-founded the Texas One Fund, the official NIL nonprofit supporting University of Texas athletes. He also advises Bo Jackson, oversees strategy for Hagens Berman Jayco — the world’s top U23 cycling team — and produces 3rd and Longhorn, a popular football podcast featuring UT legends. With a background that includes producing top UT sports shows and launching major podcasts, Nick continues to shape the conversation at the intersection of entertainment, athletics, and community.
