About the speaker
Mona Mijthab is a German industrial designer and entrepreneur focusing on social innovation. Mona facilitates design workshops, teaches design thinking and creative methods to solve social and environmental issues. Since 2015 she is commissioned to develop the “Social Design“ vision for the design department of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in Switzerland. Since 2014 she is a member of the International Development Innovation Network (IDIN) at MIT.
Mona is also the designer and founder of the “MoSan” sanitation solution, an ecological sanitation system for low-income settlements in developing countries. Her focus is growing empathy by working closely with affected people. She enjoys immersing in local context and understanding peoples and environmental needs.
In 2013 she received the first prize of the German BESTFORM Design Award. In 2015 she was part of the Social Design Elevation Days and received the first prize of the Hans-Sauer Social Design Award.
