About the speaker
Mike is the co-founder and Chief Purpose Officer of Oakland Roots & Soul SC, the United States’ first, Purpose-driven soccer club and is the only Chief Purpose Officer in American pro sports. A former BBC soccer reporter, he has spent two decades working at the intersection of sports and social impact on three continents, as a journalist, non-profit executive and entrepreneur, including for an NGO using soccer to help keep kids safe from landmines in conflict zones like Colombia and Iraq. Born in the UK, Mike has lived in London, Berlin, Johannesburg, Cape Town, New York and in Oakland since 2016.
