Lying isn’t generally a skill one leads with in an introduction. But that’s exactly what Meriah Garrett does. Learning to lie and the hard truths of her past led her down a path to discover honesty through design. What began as a curious adolescent seeking an outlet became a life-changing experience. She learned what matters most to her in life and how crucial it is to be honest with yourself.

About the speaker

Meriah Garrett is the Chief Design Officer of USAA where she seeks to create an environment where beautiful member experiences become the new normal. She leads the internal design organization, growing the design capabilities, and shaping a curriculum of internal education that lifts design practitioners and helps encourage design thinking across the enterprise.

Meriah began her career in Los Angeles as a freelance designer and developer in the emerging web space during the mid-1990’s. In 2000 she returned to Austin for the growing tech industry here. Meriah joined frog design in 2007, and spent more than eight years leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative designs that engaged consumers and created stronger brand relationships. Meriah was responsible for directing all phases of creative work from research and concept development through production. Additionally, she created a studio environment that drove impeccable design. She proudly worked on solutions for Disney, Google, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Capital One, S&P, EY, LG, Sprint, AT&T, Bell Mobility, Vodafone, 7-Eleven, Kohls, Whole Foods and others.
