Ethics and cultural appropriation: from Spinoza to Miley Cyrus

Beg, borrow or steal. How do we navigate ethical questions linked to cultural appropriation in an increasingly interconnected world? Are creative professions essentially magpie professions - does it matter?

This talk explores the ethical grey areas surrounding creative influences through the lens of a choreographer and performer.

“Hot-head of dance”, multi talented artist, “astonishing in her way of dialoguing with extremes on stage”, Kylie Walters, “the arrow”, has performed internationally as a dancer and actress for respected choreographers and directors and with her own creations.

Australian by origin, established in Europe for the past 20 years Walters’ career embraces theatre, dance and music producing live performances works and films. Walters initially trained in music (piano & violin) and dance. She holds a BA in Dance from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University, Australia and is completing a MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London.
