About the speaker

We are kicking off 2026 with views and glimmers of hope from Ron Stokes.

Ron is a native of Washington, DC whose creative roots were shaped between the vibrant streets of the Bay Area and the cultural pulse of Richmond, VA, where he has lived for the past decade.

A self-taught street artist, Ron first found his voice through graffiti - color, movement, and rebellion layered on concrete walls. Over time, that foundation evolved into a dynamic fusion with abstract art, allowing him to stretch beyond form and lean fully into emotion, intuition, and storytelling.
Ron’s work is driven by the idea that abstract art invites the viewer to find their own meaning. Each piece begins with an internal spark - an emotion, a memory, a rhythm from life around him. Through color, pattern, and layered imagery, he creates visual stories that speak to culture, history, identity, and the collective experience of community. Instead of relying on words, he lets his palette communicate: bold when it needs to be heard, subtle when it needs to be felt.

His journey has taken him from painting walls in local neighborhoods to completing both large-scale and intimate works across multiple cities. With every project, he remains grounded in giving back - donating time, art, and energy to charities, foundations, and community initiatives that uplift and support others.

In 2021, Ron expanded his vision by founding The Art Seen, a creative platform built from his belief that art should be accessible, inclusive, and reflective of the communities it comes from. Inspired by his own experiences navigating the art world as a self-taught Black artist, he created The Art Seen to produce both traditional and nontraditional art experiences that amplify minority voices while creating space for artists of all backgrounds. Through curated exhibitions, pop-up shows, collaborative projects, and immersive community events, The Art Seen serves as a bridge—connecting artists to opportunity, audiences to new perspectives, and the city to the power of creative expression.

Today, Ron continues to grow his practice while championing others, using art as a tool for connection, conversation, and cultural storytelling. His work stands at the intersection of creativity and community, a living testament to the idea that art is not just something we view, but something we experience, share, and build together.
