About the speaker

Karen Farber serves as Vice President for External Affairs at Buffalo Bayou Partnership, overseeing public art, programming, communications, and marketing.

From 2005-2020, she served as Director of the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, which is dedicated to connecting the performing, visual, and literary arts. There, she hosted residencies and programs with artists including Laurie Anderson, Jason Moran, Tania Bruguera, Bill T. Jones, The Yes Men, Philip Glass, Theaster Gates, Suzan-Lori Parks, and many others.

Farber started her career in nonprofit and arts organizations in New York City, where she was born and raised. She has been a consultant, panelist, and board member for cultural organizations nationally including Creative Capital Foundation, the MAP Fund, Blaffer Art Museum, and Houston Cinema Arts Society. She is a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with an M.A. in Performance Studies and a B.F.A. in Experimental Theater.
