How a “punk” mindset can help build a creative life

About the speaker

Justin is a longtime Wilmington actor and entrepreneur who’s spent the last 30 years in the Port City carving out a non-traditional approach to the local theater and the restaurant/hospitality business.

Currently getting his newest venture, neighborhood bar The Rift up and running, Justin also works with a group that runs Prost, The Little Dipper – and recently sold sushi spot Yosake.

As an actor, he’s probably best known as a producer and director with Wilmington’s Opera House Theatre Company. In addition, Justin recently had a role in the feature film “Saturday Night”, an SNL origin movie about the frantic first night that "Saturday Night Live" went on the air back in 1975.

Smith also has a long list of film and TV credits dating back to the 1990s. Most recently, he appeared as the drug runner Barracuda Mike in both the current and previous seasons of hit Netflix show, The Outer Banks.

Justin’s talk will take place at The Rift, where he will be talking about how he embraces the ethos of punk – challenging the status quo – to build a creatively interesting and invigorating life.
