José Pedro Sousa talks about the beginnings and development of robotics how robots are being utilized today
About the speaker
José Pedro Sousa is a professor at FAUP (Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto), where he founded and coordinates the research group DFL – Digital Fabrication Lab, and co-directs the Advanced Studies Program in Digital Architecture (in partnership with ISCTE/IUL). After obtaining his BA in Architecture from FAUP (1999), José Pedro went on to complete his Master Degree on Genetic Architectures at ESARQ from the International University of Catalonia (2002) and his PhD in Architecture from IST, at the Technical University of Lisbon (2010). José Pedro Sousa was also a Special Student no Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2003) and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania (2005).
Founded in 2013, the Digital Fabrication Lab (DFL) is the Research Group of CEAU/FAUP dedicated to investigate the use of digital design and manufacturing technologies in the design and construction fields. With a multidisciplinary team, the DFL is centered in developing Research work, which is complemented by promoting Educational, Extension and Divulging activities. Realising the convergence between the digital and the material, the DFL is a Laboratory looking for understanding, transforming and evolving this reality.
