Jim Moran

Jim Moran is the Director at The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in Two Rivers, WI. With 1.5 million pieces of wood type and more than 1,000 styles and sizes of patterns, Hamilton is the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production and printing of wood type and its collection is one of the premier wood type collections in the world. They also host demonstrations and workshops where typographers and designers can actually put their hands on and use the collection.

Jim received his apprenticeship from Moran's Quality Print Shop in Green Bay, Wisconsin after serving as printer's devil, pressman, partner and owner after 29 years of study from 1971 - 2000. He continued his education at various print shops until becoming the Director of Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in 2009. His duties there include maintaining and documenting the world's largest collection of wood type, running and repairing the museum's collection of antique presses, teaching and running workshops in letterpress printing, archiving and restoring the Museum's collection of 20th century decorative and advertising plates, and overseeing all facets of museum operation.

He has presented talks and run workshops at AIGA Nat'l Convention Phoenix, TypeCon Milwaukee, Fossil World Headquarters Dallas, IBM Main Office Austin, TX, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Columbia Center for Book and Paper Art Chicago, School of Visual Concepts Seattle, Adobe Max Coference Los Angeles, CA and APHA Annual Conference Washington DC.
