🎨 How to Make Pottery at Home

Overview 226 Lovely Attendees

About this FieldTrip

How to make handmade pottery figures like bowls, plates, glasses and many more by hand. How to shape the final form as desired. How to build walls and make a slab out of the clay. Technical and fun facts about ceramics will be shared. The attendees will learn about the different types of clay, wedging, handbuilding skills and techniques of pottery making. Tips on how to use the kiln to fire the final product. The participant can try and make their own pot by watching.

✨WHAT TO EXPECT

✔️ First we start off with greetings and love. Sending each other thanks and a huge Namaste! for being here together today.

✔️ Then I’m gonna start off by talking about the types of clay and at this point, it would be great if you also have one nearby. You can have a stoneware clay, an air dry clay or even a Play-Doh! If you can’t find any of these things feel free to use your imagination which is also great ;)

✔️ We first are getting to know how to communicate with clay and how to handshape it into a small bowl starting from scratch.

✔️ Then I’m gonna show you how to make larger models, glass or plates using different techniques. You can also practice these techniques on a wheel in a ceramic atelier or studio nearby or anytime soon if you get to pick them up!

🎒What To Bring

Feel free to bring Clay, Ceramic tools, Sponge and Love! If you don’t have any, come along and watch :).

Get yourself a pottery wheel if you can! It will really help you engage with the class. If you can’t no worries! You can always apply the same techniques to hand building or learn the tricks to use them afterwards on a wheel.

ABOUT YOUR HOST

I’m a self-taught ceramic artist with potteries selling all over the world. I started 3 years ago as a hobby without any intention of selling my products, now I make plates for restaurants and vases for weddings. I’m here to teach you my skills and what got me into the clay magic, how to make wheel thrown pottery and how this journey with argil has been life changing for me.

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
