Raise your hand if you been called a Procrastinator ? How old were you the first time you heard it? Does it feel like supportive word?
I remember the first time I was told I was procrastinator I was very young & didn’t have my self portrait done for art class… the words felt defeating bc I didn’t have the framework to hear it any other way the “”‘you’re not trying hard enough"“. ”“Teacher, I am trying hard…it’s just hard”“ ..”“Well that’s not my problem…no ”“excuses”“ get the work done!”“, she snapped. You want to know what it was hard for me? Drawing a self portrait while being told by my peers my skin was ugly & my hair was nappy…. kind of difficult to sit down and draw yourself then don’t you think? What if my teacher reframed her words? What if my teacher would have stepped in when she overheard my peers being racist & rude? What if my teacher would have checked in instead of docking points? … to be continued
