About the speaker

One of the country’s leading actresses, Fiona is a highly acclaimed mentor, MC and speaker. She heads up the country’s leading vocal academy, Speakeasy Vocal Academy, and is a much sought-after vocal consultant, dialogue coach and motivational speaker on Communication Skills and Development.

As an actress, Fiona is a familiar face on stage, screen and television; most recently shooting Black Sails, Rockstar Games with Daniel Radcliffe, and The Last Face – playing opposite Charlize Theron, directed by Sean Penn.

On stage she recently played Marlene Dietrich in Miss Dietrich Regrets, the strict and stoic Sister Aloyisius in the award winning play Doubt and the writer Bronwyn Blackburn in a new SA work The Imagined Land –which was a huge success at this year’s Grahamstown Festival.

Fiona is a knowledgeable and entertaining speaker, and having worked on international films with a gallery of stars including Idris Elba, Tim Robbins, Don Cheadle, Sophie Okenedo, Jennifer Hudson and Ryan Phillipe, her presentations are often peppered with lively ‘behind-the-scenes’ anecdotes.

Fiona created and devised a unique technique in the approach to vocal coaching, dialect training and communication empowerment, and embodies the axiom ‘You are what you speak!’ and encourages that all speak with ease in the business, arts, corporate or sports arenas.

A well-known media personality hosting an arts show and literature program on radio, she is a skilled interviewer and Professional Voice Coach at the Park Lane Voice & Swallowing Clinic. Fiona travels extensively, in SA and to the US and UK to conferences where she delivers papers and lectures on her subject. Fiona recently graduated with her Masters in Dramatic Arts from Wits University and is currently researching her PhD.
