About the speaker
Ellen Frost is a florist and community builder who uses flowers to bring people together. She chronicles her flower adventures on her YouTube channel and free weekly newsletter. Ellen is the owner of Local Color Flowers, a business committed to sourcing 100% locally grown flowers - unusual in the industry where nearly all cut flowers are imported or grown in California. Ellen works out of her Waverly studio where she also hosts events including her Saturday morning flower hang-out where you may find the hosts of Baltimore CreativeMornings regularly eating blacksauce biscuit sandwiches from the farmers market one block away.
Ellen was recognized in 2016 by the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers with the Allan M Armitage Award for Leadership (I'm sure you've heard of it) for her business success, commitment to locally grown flowers, and role in developing the US floriculture industry. She has mentored and supported new flower growers in Maryland for years including a buying promise of the new growers’ entire first-year harvest. She writes a regular column for a trade magazine, Cut Flower Quarterly. She has taught over 100 design and business courses to garden clubs, flower enthusiasts, budding entrepreneurs, and students from grade school to graduate school. Ellen is now working to extend her flower-loving community online.
