About the speaker
Edit Pula(j) born in 1974 in Tirana, Albania, is an artist, curator, music producer, festival organizer. She is recently appointed Director of Tirana Art Gallery, and since 2015 on her role as Cultural Adviser to the Mayor of Tirana, she led the innovative Public Art Project Reja (the Cloud-the 2013 Serpentine Pavilion, that resides in Tirana since), overseeing from its ground works construction into administration, turning it from a temporary art installation into an alternative culture hub for a variety of public events.
She founded its amateur choir (Reja-Cloud's Choir) and a dedicated performance arts festival Mixing Tradition with contemporary in its 9th edition this year.
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana in 1996, she was the recipient of six-month artist residency ‘Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes’ in Norwich, UK. She continued her postgraduate studies at the Byam Shaw School (now Central Saint Martin’s College of Arts and Design) in London, and lived and worked in London until 2009. Upon her return to Albania, her artistic and curatorial work focused on Albanian cultural heritage, using it as material for threading contemporary expressions.
Other then her visual arts career as artist and curator, which includes solo and group shows, site specific installations, performance, film and book publishing (Albania's 90s: Photographs and Narratives, bahoe books, 2020), since 2011, she has dedicated herself into promoting Albania and Albanian music abroad, initiating collaborations with BBC radio, to produce radio documentaries, ensembling musicians, creating highly acclaimed groups like Saz'iso, Orkestra Shkodra, Tirana-Tirona Allstars, Pulse of Berat, recording their music and organizing concerts for these groups at prestigious international venues.
She co-produced the music album ‘I left you the mountain’ Sternberg Press,2016, published on the occasion of the Albanian Pavilion at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia and her latest private initiative is 'Home of Poliphony' museum in Gjirokaster, in 2022, which is the first museum of music in Albania.
