Reinvention through the eyes of a curator: Joshua Lau on art, design, and the stories that shape us.

At our CreativeMornings x Singapore Design Week special, Joshua Lau, Assistant Curator at ArtScience Museum, shared his journey from Mars to Frida Kahlo, showing how each exhibition required fresh research and reinvention. His talk highlighted how art, design, and technology collide to create new ways of seeing.

About the speaker

Joshua Lau is a curator and independent artist based in Singapore. Trained in theatre direction and filmmaking, he later earned a BA in Culture, Criticism and Curation from Central Saint Martins. He is currently an Assistant Curator at ArtScience Museum—part of the exhibitions curatorial team.

Joshua has curated and produced major exhibitions including Mars: The Red Mirror (2023-2024) and Laid Bare: Frida’s Inner World (2024). He also spearheaded ArtScience Residency (2023-2024), which culminated in a series of public programmes and exhibitions. Most recently, he contributed to the curatorial team of Another World is Possible, ArtScience Museum’s landmark exhibition exploring the intersections of art, design and technology in shaping futures and world-building.

Alongside the curatorial work, Joshua maintains an artistic practice in creative-non-fiction writing, drawing inspiration from his multidisciplinary background. He self-publishes under a pseudonym, with a focus on Autotheory and its intersections with lived experience and artistic research.
