Mary Thiefels

This month’s global theme is BLOSSOM, and we were honored to welcome Mary Thiefels, muralist, educator, and founder of Treetown Murals and Brush Monkeys, with her husband and creative partner Danijel Matanic joining for the Q&A. Mary’s journey began in 1998, when she and friends lobbied to paint murals on Ann Arbor’s downtown railroad underpasses. What started as a summer project grew into a lifelong passion for public art, community collaboration, and mentorship of young artists.
