Using “Wonder” as a noun, verb, and adjective in the creative industry
Ben Flores is the beverage director for the Hi Brau Room, the cocktail parlor above Aloha Beer in Kakaako. There, he oversees the cocktail, beer, and nonalcoholic drink menu, including creating original and exciting cocktails. “I’ve always had a passion for beverage and a passion for food. I found myself in a position where I could bring the two together and make a career out of it” he says. From upscale restaurants in Missoula, Montana to the trendy cocktail scene in Kakaako, Ben has collaborated and worked alongside a variety of award-winning chefs and bartenders. Behind his success, Ben credits talented mentors, extensive self-education, and a whole lot of “research” (hand moves to mouth to mime drinking). Before joining Aloha Beer, Ben was the beverage director at 12th Ave Grill in Kaimuki where he earned national recognition for his signature cocktails, house-made bitters, and cutting-edge ice program. When he’s not behind the bar, Ben is recharging with his wife, Sande.
