Every day Mijksenaar helps millions of people find their way. Atja Apituley talks about how to do that in the least obtrusive ways, so we can still feel like discoverers.
About the speaker
Wandering without getting lost
As soon as we leave our homes we become travellers. Whether it is commuting to our job or exploring exciting new countries. But what if your daily train is broken, what if you’re too late to catch your plane, what if the power on your smartphone is getting low during your journey? Atja will share stories and knowledge about the art of wayfinding: how can we design wayfinding solutions that are both effective and beautiful, and sometimes let you wander without getting lost.
Doing research on icons for pharmaceutical purposes at the University of Utrecht, Atja Apituley discovered graphic design as her vocation. After working as a freelance designer she now is project leader and senior designer at Mijksenaar, wayfinding experts in Amsterdam. She worked for Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Artis Zoo, Rozet Cultural hub and Fiumicino Roma International Airport. Currently, she is involved in projects for deSingel and Bozar in Belgium, het Nederlands Openluchtmuseum, het Rietveld Schröderhuis and the Bihar museum in India.
