About the speaker

Aretta Baumgartner became the Center for Puppetry Arts’s Education Director in July 2011. Her prior and current work, nationally and internationally (as a performer and teaching artist specializing in puppetry, mask, and movement) have been assets to her position leading the educational activities at the Center. Along with her teaching and performing career, Baumgartner has also sat on numerous committees for the Puppeteers of America and served as the Great Lakes Regional Director of the Puppeteers of America (for which she received the “Applause Applause Award”). As someone who is constantly learning about and giving back to her craft, Baumgartner is a member of the Association of Theatre Movement Educators (for which she is the Puppetry Arts liaison), Atlanta Puppetry Guild, Cincinnati Area Puppetry Guild, Educational Theatre Association, Puppeteers of America, Theatre Communications Group and UNIMA-USA. She has a B. A. in Theatre Arts from Ashland University and an M.A. in Communication Arts from the University of Cincinnati, and has traveled extensively to train, perform and teach.
