I've been working at Netflix and Spotify where data is really embraced. And sometimes data and design are seen as opposing forces, things that are different from each other. But what I've actually found working at the intersection of these two worlds has actually helped to push my creative process forward. play redirect heart
When I became a manager, I came to find that engaging in conflict would have to become a natural part of my job and necessary. play redirect heart
Even if I have a great relationship with someone, the first time I think about having to approach them with some kind of potential conflict, I have a physical reaction, like someone is grabbing your stomach and simultaneously punching you in the heart. play redirect heart
By the time you got here you saw hundreds of messages. And if that weren't enough, we continue to seek out more messages. We look to media and we look to entertainment. And what do we find there, what do we receive from this entertainment? We receive a lot of masks. play redirect heart
Number 1: Keep your process human-centered. So, remember empathy. Remove judgement and prior assumptions and truly listen. play redirect heart
At that point I became a global citizen. 'Why India?' is always the question that I get. Why not India? We're all humans and it's important to work together to fight for each other, and fight for each other's human rights. play redirect heart
[Empathy] does seem to strike a lot of intimidation in people, but I want to share that empathy is not about tears or matching someone's feelings. It's about supporting each other; at the core, empathy is a choice. play redirect heart
The way we think about empathy is that empathy is really meaning just with—do it with somebody. . . . We talk a lot about what is it like to feel with, be with, sit with, laugh with, cry with, and how can we bring that into our work. play redirect heart
If you are a humble leader that promotes collaborations and inclusion, people are going to feel part of the team and will want to support the rest of the team members. play redirect heart
I believe that the heart of any entrepreneurial venture is not the idea of the problem we want to solve per se, it´s the team that is being built, and how that team can become a leader together. play redirect heart
If I don´t see other people´s diversity and accept their points of view I won´t be able to make progress and enrich what I´m proposing. play redirect heart
Humility, It´s exposing myself like I´m doing here, and accepting that I don´t know everything. play redirect heart
We have to be broken to be put back together, so once we're back together, we can laugh at how we broke. play redirect heart
Corporate cultures that value numbers over people. And they are not standard business practices. They are new. They are broken. And they're dangerous. And we're asking a young, wonderful, ambitious, amazing generation, that needs us, to work in these enviroments. play redirect heart
Love is a beautiful thing and its the thing that we have to hold on to and the thing that we need to treasure and the only thing that will ever, in a million years, heal the world with the state that we're in. play redirect heart
