Games imbue a place with meaning.

The interesting thing about games is that they come into it as strangers and they leave as friends.

Games break down a barrier between individuals because once we play a game with somebody else we have that thing in common.

Our ability to give and receive and reciprocate is all that matters. It's the most pure and human impulse; to escape the excess bullshit and rediscover the essential. What is essential is not ourselves: it is each other.

I knew nothing about self-compassion. My way to be a good person was I really beat myself up, I pushed myself relentlessly, and I thought what could even be close to self-compassion behavior was self-indulgent.

There's genius ready to be tapped, created, and deployed anywhere at anytime for anything if we take the time to build community. There's no problem we can't solve, no challenge we can't overcome, if we build community.

I try not to burn bridges in anger and frustration. You can always quit a job on good terms.

I work hard because why bother at all if you're going to half-ass it.

This is what it’s all about. It’s about allowing yourself to have fun. And have fun with yourself and have fun with your partners. See the possibilities with yourselves and stay together. Because we are all geniuses.

I love that you actually got so involved that you didn’t hear me saying ’stop’.

We never really grow up. The only thing we do is learn to behave in public.

When we feel that it’s hard, it’s because we let our control take over. Control can be a good thing. But not in improv. Control is boring. Control stops our creative minds and stops our imagination.

It’s all about saying ’yes’. This is what we do when we work with improv. It’s about saying yes. And that’s how we can become geniuses.

So, instead of me standing here talking about myself, I would actually like to try this on you now.

A short story about myself. My name is Tobias. I’m a human and I’m an improvisor. Which is pretty much the same.

Life, career fulfillment, relationships are journeys.

We didn't go there because we thought we were going to solve anything, we didn't go to feel good about ourselves. We went to help people amplify their voices, we wanted to acknowledge their lived experience without judgement and we wanted to stand in solidarity and say; "Yeah! You know what, you're right, this isn't fair, this shouldn't be happening and I'm going to be here with you."- that's Empathy.

The safe thing to do would have been to stay sympathetic, to just keep the bumper sticker and a donation and call it a day. But there was no depth to that and this felt to important to stand on the sidelines for. I didn't know what I was going to do but I started to think of ideas.

Approaching something through art has the advantage of being disarming, it changes the narrative and it can change your perspective. We have this advantage for anyone who works in a creative field or considers themselves creative or has a brain, we have these opportunities to creative approach this.

When we're looking at empathy and sympathy, we have to ask ourselves, is this self-preservation or self protection? And you have to be really honest if you want to answer that question.

But we also need it on a global scale. Connection is needed for a peaceful society. We live in this world with all kinds of religious, ethnic, social differences and in order to bridge that gap we have to start to feel what it feels like to be somebody else, somebody who's completely different from us.

Social media isn't designed for impact response, all the tools available are sympathetic and hallow.

Social media offers us opportunities to connect in a way that we wouldn't because we never met these people in our lives.

Connection feeds a meaningful existence. As humans, we need that connection. Loving someone and being loved, caring for someone and being cared for, having someone share your pain and sharing their's. Taking that risk makes us better friends, better parents neighbors, better people.
